The queer electronic music artist Game Genie Sokolov, Adelaide for intimate friends, continues his quest for identity and art with the launch of the single TransWave, nine months after the release of his second album Trans // Mission.
Varied and including four sung pieces, including two hip-hop tracks, Trans // Mission allowed the artist to unveil his own identity, as much from a musical point of view as of genre. She has made collaborations with artists she loves, such as Laurence Giroux-Do, member of the electro-pop trio The colour.
“I originally play queer music. Album Trans // Mission, that’s mostly what we hear in it. ” – Adelaide Sokolov
She gives the example of a few pieces whose titles are evocative, whether Non Binary, Girl boy or, Coming Out. Adelaide presents herself more specifically as a transgender person, an identity she has publicly assumed in her second album. It was in transition when the latter was composed.
“The album Trans // Mission was a way for me to say it too, without saying it. I didn’t really have to do coming out in fact, it happened, ”she says.
On the other hand, it was a coming out artistic, she said. With this album, Adélaïde wanted to demonstrate that she did not only make music for video games.
“I don’t want to be presented as such anymore. I do a lot more things. I sing, I play the guitar, I play drum, bass. “
An approach inspired by the advice of several musician friends who told her, “if you put more of your personality and more of yourself inside, it doesn’t look like a genre anymore, it looks like you.”
That doesn’t stop her from winking at artists like Madonna, Prince and Queen, “because I like it”.
With the single TransWave, Adelaide makes her fans wait for her new album Renaissance be launched on the market. A title which is also not insignificant: “It’s called Renaissance, because literally in my life I am experiencing a rebirth. And now, I assume myself much more artistically, ”she explains.
Mastering is about to end, but Adelaide is looking for a record label to promote it. Lisbon Lux Records label which released their debut album Insert Disc 2, did not wish to take Trans // Mission.
“Too bad for them, because in the end, he was much more successful than the other,” she laughs.
It was therefore self-produced, but quickly realized the difficulties inherent in promotion.
“There are some who know how to do that well, I don’t know how to do that well.”
Of the ten pieces she composed for Renaissance, seven are sung, including two with his own voice. She adds that there will be two “tunes” of R’n’B, “in my own way”.
A first extract from his third album, entitled Drag Machine and produced in collaboration with Matante Alex, has been available on various platforms since the end of the summer.
