(Paris) Gabriel Matzneff, targeted by an investigation for rape of minors under 15, is preparing to publish a book in response to the Consent of Vanessa Springora, who recounted her adolescent relationship with the writer, her former editor, Léo Scheer, told AFP.
Léo Scheer had republished the essay in 2005 Under sixteen, where Matzneff praises sex with children and adolescents. He explained that he was among the people called for a private subscription for the launch of this new book, confirming information from the Actualitté website.
“I got the subscription call letter about three weeks ago. And I don’t have it anymore. I didn’t keep it, ”he said, not intending to buy the book.
This one must be called Vanessavirus, and be a response to Consent by Vanessa Springora. A bookstore success published in January 2020, this story caused a stir, and a debate on sexual violence against minors and the complacency enjoyed by Mr. Matzneff in the Parisian literary world.
“We no longer have any ties with Gabriel Matzneff. Like other publishers, we have suspended the marketing of his books, ”Scheer said.
According to The Obs which reproduces this call for subscription, sent to people you trust, 10 luxury copies are sold at 650 euros ($ 1000) per unit, and 190 ordinary copies at 100 euros ($ 154) per unit, i.e. a figure of maximum business of 25,500 euros ($ 39,000). Gabriel Matzneff, 84, specifies that it will be his “swan song”.
The consent had exposed the swayed relationship in the 1980s between the writer, almost 50 at the time, and Vanessa Springora, 14.
Gabriel Matzneff’s lawyer, Emmanuel Pierrat, was not reachable on Tuesday. Vanessa Springora, requested by AFP, had not reacted at the end of the afternoon.
