After a week of rest for different entertainment events that took place in the country, the semifinal home runs of the Liga BetPlay Dimayor II-2022 return to continue writing the path for the new champion of Colombian Professional Soccer. However, for those clubs that are not within this select group, this time helps them to start thinking about their sporting processes for the future and bad news was announced today for one of those clubs.

Through an official statement, Deportes Tolima announced the death of its president and top shareholder of the club, Gabriel Camargo, who was confirmed a thyroid cancer earlier this year:

“After a long and difficult battle against cancer, at dawn today, in the city of Bogotá, Don Gabriel Camargo, top shareholder of Club Deportes, died Tolima who for more than forty-three years led our institution. Gabriel was well remembered not only for being the president of the team of the capital of music, but also for his involvement in Colombian politics. Camargo served as a senator of the Republic from 1994 to 2002, besides he was the main person who obtained sufficient resources to start the construction of the Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium, Tolima's current home.

< p class="paragraph">The way in which Camargo made his way into the world of soccer was quite curious, but that was how he demonstrated his entrepreneurial ability. Between 1981 and 1985 by the hand of the Kokoriko brand, the team's sponsor at the time, Gabriel became the owner of the Tolimense institution for the first time. According to Camargo himself, he managed 50 percent of the country's chicken trade.

In the first years of managing the team, the Pijaosthey obtained their first runner-up in the Colombian tournament and in 1982, Tolima participated for the first time in the Copa Libertadores de América. It should be remembered that on the night of Tuesday, March 29, the Tolimense institution, through a statement confirmed that the owner of the institution since 2003,was diagnosed with carcinoma of the thyroid gland.

In addition to the title of the Copa Colombia 2014 and the Colombian Super League in 2022.
