The family of 22-year-old influencer Gabby Petito will receive $3 million from the family of Brian Laundrie, both parties agreed to on Thursday. The settlement came after the wrongful death lawsuitfiled last year determine that it was indeed the young woman's boyfriend who strangled her during a trip in August 2021.

The agreement was signed by Hunter W. Carroll, county judge of Sarasota, in Florida, United States. One of Petito's parents' lawyers commented that the money will go to the Foundation that bears his daughter's name, which is dedicated to locating missing persons and assisting in cases of domestic violence.

“The Petito family lost their daughter and were also denied the opportunity to confront her killer,” attorney Patrick Reilly added in an email. “No amount of money is enough to compensate the Petito family for the loss of their daughter, Gabby, to hands of Brian Laundrie”, the lawyer continued.

The figure established is arbitrary and it is highly unlikely that the defendant family has that sum of money. However, Reilly assured that the foundation will benefit from any amount that is collected.

The first lawsuit on the case was filed in May of this year and was the one that defined the person responsible for the damage caused to the family environment by the loss of the woman.
