In the German city of Dessau-Roslau, local authorities decided to erect a monument to the last president of the USSR, Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, on one of the streets. Russians on social networks ridiculed the monument to the politician and even began to be interested in what he holds in his hand, a slice of pizza or a pack of dollars.

It is noteworthy that the monument opened in Dessau-Roslau became the first full-length monument to Gorbachev. Previously, only one bust of the last Soviet leader was installed in the country. Now the sculptor Bernd Gebel has created a full-size pedestal, which was installed directly opposite the city hall. The city administration has timed this event to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Day of German Unity.

Moreover, the money for this monument was collected by the residents of the city. According to some reports, the installation of the sculpture cost 50,000 euros. The head of the city, Peter Kursa, who attended the opening ceremony, stressed that Mikhail Gorbachev became the politician who created the conditions for glasnost and perestroika, and that it was thanks to him that the Berlin Wall was destroyed.

Meanwhile, most Russians on social networks see a slightly different subtext in the installation of the monument to Gorbachev. Many users note that it was the cooperation of the former president of the USSR with the West that resulted in the collapse of the Union.
