From “Back to Crime” to “Penguin Bloom”, a guide to movies in cinemas and on digital platforms

Pandemic permitting, the saga of We just have the crime it works like a clock. Back and forth in time, taking the group’s Roman spirit as a reference point, a hooked basic comedy to a past that makes nostalgia, good memories, difficult moments overcome thanks to the union that is strength, all together patriotic with the Italian flaws, the sense of parody, of intrigue, of fantasy. The smandrappati Gianfranco, Moreno, Giuseppe and Sebastiano are tornati in our times after the raid in the eighties and they find themselves chasing Sabrina, the woman who fooled them, stole the loot and now she is in Montecarlo, married to an antique dealer, such Massimo Ranieri, dealer of fake author, mother of a sly-like influencer named Loretta Heather with a barcode on side B which is the pass to get to the treasure of the Magliana band, the well-known obsession of the four.
Renatino reappears, parody of the real boss of Magliana Renato De Pedis, thrown to the present day through the same space-time passage that sucked the ordinary people. Renatino does not know who Francesco Totti is, but he enjoys exploring the future with that likeable rogue that does not suit the bad reality of the character. The designated bad guy is instead a Camorra, called Van Gogh because he looks like a drop of water to the Dutch painter. The Camorra man has an unfinished business with the antique dealer and for this he kidnaps his daughter. Farce, pochade, pastiche goofy. The gags are cacio & pepe and narrative development, while looking at the noble Back to the Future by Robert Zemeckis with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd’s DeLorean, stops at the Roman castles.
To give himself a tone, the good Massimiliano Bruno, who signs the screenplay with Alessandro Aronadio, Andrea Bassi and Renato Sannio, he mentions current affairs by talking about diets mania, falling values and even civil unions. Alessandro Gassman, Gianmarco Tognazzi, Marco Giallini and Edoardo Leo, and then Loretta Goggi, Claudio Buccirosso, Corinne Clery, Ninetto Davoli and many others do their best to balance the comic side. But the repetitiveness of the cliché and the macchiettistico system, obscuring the psychologies, make the film a kind of space-time trip with a legion of guest star: Antonio Cabrini, Bruno Conti, Achille Lauro and so on.
