The device is designed to be launched from submarines and can maintain communication with the platform at a distance of more than 20 km.
< p>The French company ALSEAMAR presented its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Blackbird, designed to be launched from a submarine, at the Euronaval 2024 exhibition in Paris. This unique project is aimed at creating the possibility of deploying a UAV from a deep-submerged submarine and controlling it in underwater conditions. This was reported in Naval News on November 11.
This drone is capable of exchanging data with a submarine, providing significant capabilities for reconnaissance and data collection. To control the Blackbird, the X-SUB antenna system, designed as a remote underwater device for data collection and transmission, is used.

The Blackbird is 60 cm long and weighs between 1 and 2 kg, depending on the payload, allowing the submarine to carry up to five such devices. It is enclosed in a watertight capsule that deflates during launch and is launched through a channel used by the X-SUB linked to the submarine's control system.
During tests on the Suffren submarine in May 2024 The UAV has shown that it is capable of maintaining communication at a distance of more than 20 km (currently using a different platform).
The project is currently in the testing phase: ALSEAMAR conducts regular sea tests and the next phase of testing is scheduled for 2025 year.
