French AI service shut down due to strange responses to users

Chinese DeepSeek is actively changing the field of AI, offering powerful but accessible language models. Meanwhile, in France, an attempt to create an alternative to ChatGPT ended in failure. The Lucie chatbot from OpenLLM-France refused to answer basic questions, gave strange advice and even suggested adding «cow eggs» to the diet.

What else is known

Among the most curious errors – unwillingness to answer «how much will 2+2 be?» due to insufficient neutrality of the query and the preparation of instructions for preparing methamphetamine. Two days after the launch, Linagora Group suspended the service, recognizing the model as unoptimized and unprotected from dangerous content.

The situation is compared to the failed launch of Google Bard and the scandal surrounding Microsoft Tay in 2016, which demonstrate the risks of hasty release of language models. Despite the failure, OpenLLM-France has a chance to correct the mistakes and present an improved version of Lucie in the future.
