Children under 12 will be able to take the bus, train or metro for free starting next summer throughout greater Montreal.
Adopted shortly before Christmas, the new price list of the Metropolitan Regional Transport Authority (ARTM) notably provides for this new measure, which is overlooked during the holiday season.
The ARTM is currently finalizing “discussions that will allow the adjustment of certain specific application methods and the completion of the implementation schedule, so that the exact details in this regard can be communicated in the coming weeks”, affirms Simon Charbonneau. , public affairs and media relations advisor to the authority.
Desired by many
Already children under 6 can travel for free in certain transport companies in the metropolitan community.
This measure had already been in the air for a few months.
Last November, the City of Montreal also provided more than $ 9 million in its most recent budget to implement this measure, which was to receive the approval of the ARTM.
In Laval, the opposition councilor, David De Cotis, member of Action Laval, proposed that his city imitate the metropolis.
This is supported by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Laval, Éric Morasse.
Created in 2017, the ARTM, which oversees all public transport in the metropolitan community of Montreal, in its first missions was to attempt to simplify the price list for its territory, which currently has more than 700 tickets.
The new tariffs that would include the measure for children under 12 are due to come into force in July 2021.
