France ordered the evacuation of the families of its diplomats from Iran amid fears that Tehran may attack Israel in response to the shelling of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, where Iranian generals were staying.
As the French Foreign Ministry said on Friday, citizens are advised not to travel to Iran, Lebanon, Israel and Palestinian territories, and also said that French civil servants are now prohibited from carrying out any missions there.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Twitter (X) that relatives of diplomats in Iran will return to France.
France, Britain, Canada and Australia have issued travel bans to Israel.
The United States has restricted travel of American diplomats and their families to Israel, banning staff there from traveling to most of the country.
German airline Lufthansa has extended the temporary suspension of flights to and from Tehran until Saturday.
Iran has threatened Israel with retribution for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria on April 1, during which seven members of the Iranian revolutionary movement were killed guard. This raised concerns that the already unstable climate in the Middle East could quickly worsen.
