Alianza Lima, Universitario and Cienciano issued a joint statement, in which they asked the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) to account for the guests who traveled to Qatar for the playoffs. Hours after the document was published, the highest governing body of football in Peru sent a response.
After rejecting the content of the letter, the entity assured that “These institutions have not requested any information related to the rendering of accounts or the list of passengers on the selection from Qatar. Nor have they approached the FPF or any of its bodies to collect said information”. In addition, “it considers that the publication under comment is a tendentious and distracting act of sports issues and results that each of its temporary administrations has“.
Similarly, the Peruvian Football Federation indicates that it is “subjected to permanent national audits, as well as financial controls by FIFA, Conmebol and its Assembly of Bases; result, since 2019, a solid institution without observations. Therefore, it has no arbitrary expenses or need for political payments of any kind”.
On the other hand, the FPF highlighted that it stopped receiving box office income in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but continued to support the development of League 1, League 2 and the Women's League. “It is tendentious and short-sighted on the part of the Alianza Lima, Cienciano del Cusco and Universitario clubs to suggest a misuse of resources, when they supported Peruvian soccer,” the statement added. p>

On the other hand, the FPF ruled out any kind of scandal within the Peruvian team during the playoff against Qatar and highlighted the work of Ricardo Gareca with his squad. Finally, the Federation announced that a general restructuring plan for Peruvian soccer will be presented in the coming days.< source data-srcset="https://elcomercio.pe/resizer/PjqwtkrHSb-CdiIBO4z8ypU1rg4=/482x0/smart/filters:format(jpeg):quality(75)/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com /elcomercio/FQ77EFTP3FF4NM3S6V4C5OT3GQ.jpg" media="(max-width: 639px)" class="lazy"/>
