Four arsons lit in the night from Monday to Tuesday in Montreal

The four fires were all lit in the same way, i.e. with incendiary objects thrown through a window or shop window.

Montreal firefighters were forced to travel several times during the night from Monday to Tuesday, four arson fires having been set during a two-hour period.

The four disasters did not cause any injuries, but one of them, which broke out around 3:35 a.m. in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district, caused considerable damage to a building and required evacuations. An incendiary object was allegedly thrown through the window of a commercial premises on Monkland Avenue.

The flames spread to the second floor and led to several evacuations.

Earlier during the night, between 1:40 a.m. and 2:45 a.m., three more fires were set. In each case, incendiary objects were thrown through a window.

The first broke out in the Rivière-des-Prairies district, around 1:40 a.m., in a commercial building on Boulevard Maurice-Duplessis, near the intersection of 41st Avenue. The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters from the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SSIM), which helped limit the damage.

Between 2:20 a.m. and 2:45 a.m., two more fires were set in the the same way in two commercial buildings on Boulevard Marcel-Laurin, near Boulevard Thimens. In both cases, the damage was minor.

All four fires are expected to be investigated by the Federal Police. arson squad of the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).

At the end of the night, no arrests had been announced.
