Former Chief of the General Staff of the Moldovan Army Igor Gorgan has been charged with treason and espionage for Russia. This was stated by the representative of the prosecutor's office for combating organized crime and special cases Emil Gaitur.

Igor Gorgan headed the General Staff until 2021. Information about his ties with Russian intelligence appeared in the media in the summer of 2024. It was alleged that Gorgan informed the Russian side about visits to Moldova by representatives of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, who were trying to purchase weapons.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu stripped the former Chief of the General Staff of his awards.
