In the 2000s, the Russian car market was literally flooded with foreign cars of good quality, but the cars of the domestic concern “AvtoVAZ” still have not lost their popularity among Russians. According to Forbes, Lada cars were the most desirable product for the inhabitants of the USSR, but the country's auto industry did not have the opportunity to meet the growing demand for them.

A similar situation with the shortage of AvtoVAZ cars continued until the end of the 20th century. Later, the USSR collapsed, and Russia became a separate independent state, opening the borders for imported products. It would seem that the popularity of Lada against this background should have fallen rapidly, but even in 2020, cars of this brand occupy more than 20% of the entire automotive market in the country. According to the magazine's observers, the main reason for the continued popularity of the domestic brand's cars is their simplicity.
“Any car that can survive 50 rather harsh winters and constant driving on poor quality bumpy roads certainly deserves respect,” the publication says.
In addition, according to 32CARS.RU, recent polls have revealed that AvtoVAZ products remind three quarters of Russian citizens of the best Soviet era in their life, and therefore nostalgia plays a significant role in choosing a car.
