Performer and producer Potap (Aleksey Potapenko) once admitted that state awards are not important to him, and if he is given “People's Artist of Ukraine”, he will give up this title.

However, on June 28 of this year, the musician nevertheless became an Honored Artist of Ukraine – he was personally awarded by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In an interview with Katya Osadchy published on YouTube, Potap admitted why he did not refuse the award, and why it was important for him.

“I did it for hip-hop culture. Because there should have been one first rap artist who received this title, and it was me,” said Alexey Potapenko.

Potap also told how he celebrated his new status: “I spent two weeks drinking with friends on the sly. I didn't know what that meant, but everyone said that we had to show the bottle. A little was drunk, no more than 10 bottles of Ukrainian wine.”

We add that besides Potap, other stars of show business received awards from the president, among them TV presenters Maria Efrosinina and Alla Mazur, singers Irina Bilyk and Tina Karol.
