The Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates has published a video demonstrating the deployment of the indigenous Nimr Ajban Mk2 4×4 armored personnel carriers, which are being used for the first time in service with the UAE Armed Forces. This marks an important milestone for the UAE's defense industry and its commitment to developing and deploying its own military technology.
First unveiled at the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi in February 2021, the Nimr Ajban Mk2 is an improved version of the original Ajban series. It has been developed by Nimr, a UAE-based defense equipment manufacturer and subsidiary of Edge Group, to meet today's combat and tactical requirements. The design of the car is focused on increased mobility, excellent protection and increased operational flexibility. In particular, the Ajban Mk2 is designed according to STANAG 4569 standards, providing:
- ballistic protection;
- protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IED).
The Ajban Mk2 is equipped with a high-performance diesel engine capable of producing up to 300 horsepower, combined with an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system. The car has a carrying capacity of more than 1.5 tons and is capable of developing a speed of up to 110 km/h. Its operating range exceeds 700 kilometers, which allows it to perform extended missions without frequent refueling.
The car's suspension system is designed for rough terrain, providing excellent stability and comfort for the crew even in the most difficult conditions. In addition, the modular design allows for various configurations, including troop transport, command and control, or as a weapons carrier. The Ajban Mk2 can be equipped with a range of integrated weapon systems such as a remote-controlled weapons station, heavy machine guns and anti-tank guided missile systems, making it extremely versatile on the battlefield.
