For the first time, the Armed Forces captured a new Russian fiber-optic drone

A new Russian FPV-drone that works on optical fiber has fallen into the hands of Ukrainian military engineers. Photographs of the trophy drone were made public by Sergiy Flesh, an expert in the field of radio technologies.

«This is already a trophy. He flew 9 km. And this is not Kursk, but the East», – he said.

In Russia, this drone is called “Vandal” (or “Prince Vandal of Novgorod”). “Vandal” FPV drones are distinguished by excellent image quality, signal stability and its preservation until the moment of hitting the target.

At the same time, they are limited by the length of the optical fiber in the coil and have certain limitations in maneuverability and routes. Also, a reel with a cable adds weight to the drone.

For example, it is known that a reel with a cable on Chinese FPV drones with a length of 5 kilometers weighs 1.1 kg, a reel with a length of 10 km will add 2.3 kg of additional weight to the drone .

However, the main advantage of fiber-optic drones – they are not affected by electronic warfare systems.

In addition, it cannot be detected by a UAV detector due to the lack of radio control signals and video signal transmission.

Also, the operator receives from the drone camera an almost perfect image on his monitors.

In aviation unmanned systems, lead control may seem something exotic, but it has long been used to control missiles of anti-tank systems.
