For the first time, South Korea and the United States conducted joint training on the use of drones

The militaries of South Korea and the United States on Friday organized training using UAVs of both countries for the first time, Renhap agency reports.

Training with live ammunition took place in South Korea, at an undisclosed location. From South Korea, the RQ-4 Global Hawk reconnaissance drone took part, and the US – the MQ-9 Reaper attack drone.

According to the scenario, the UAVs attacked the object, with the help of which the enemy carried out a provocation. The South Korean drone collected data about the target and transmitted it to the MQ-9 Reaper, which then hit the target with a GBU-38 guided aerial bomb.

Renhap's source said that the militaries of the two countries initially did not intend to disclose information about the exercise. However, after North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile the day before, the decision was changed to send a warning to North Korea.

Also on Thursday, the South Korean military rehearsed the task of an air strike against a mobile missile system of a hypothetical enemy.

< p>Later, the DPRK authorities announced that a day earlier it had successfully tested the latest Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile. In Pyongyang, the missile was characterized as a “super-powerful means of destruction”.

It is emphasized that the missile flew for 5,156 seconds, the flight range was 1,000 km. Maximum height – 7 thousand 687.5 km. The missile hit the intended area of ​​the Sea of ​​Japan.
