In January-August of this year Moscow's manufacturing industry has increased production volumes by 4.8% compared to the same period last year, Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations, told reporters on Friday.
“In general, the growth of industrial production in the capital from January to August amounted to 2.9% compared to last year. At the same time, a systemic increase in production volumes shows the manufacturing sector – by 4.8%, following the results of seven months of this year the same indicator in this industry was 3.5% “, – he specified.
According to Efimov, against the background of increased demand, the production of medicines and materials used for medical purposes increased by 26.9%. The growth in the production of paper and paper products, which began in May, also continued.
The increase in production in this category compared to the same period last year amounted to 11.7%, which is associated with an increase in demand for paper packaging from manufacturers of consumer goods in connection with current trends in environmental protection and ecology, as well as an increase in the volume of goods purchased remotely, online.
Food production in the capital for 8 months increased by 8.4%, in particular, the production of semi-finished meat products, canned food and bakery products.
The head of the department of investment and industrial policy, Alexander Prokhorov, specified that the production of machinery and equipment showed high growth rates since the beginning of the year – by 2.7 times.
“In particular, the metropolitan enterprises produced 10.5 thousand elevators, which is 25% more than in the same period last year. Their products are in high demand and are actively used in the planned replacement of elevator equipment in Moscow, which from 2021 to 2023 involves renewal 8.8 thousand lifts, “he said.
In addition, Prokhorov said that the production of chemicals increased 2.6 times. At the same time, especially high rates in this sector were demonstrated by the segments of paints and varnishes, disinfectants and hygiene products, perfumery and cosmetic products.
