A fire broke out in the forest at a former military training ground near Jüterbog in the German state of Brandenburg.
This was reported by Spiegel, as reported by "European Pravda".
More than twelve hectares are currently engulfed in flames, said Rico Valentin, operations manager of the fire service. The area is being surveyed using a drone.
The fire broke out at around 11:40 a.m. for reasons that are still unknown. Valentin said he expected the fire to spread further.
Emergency services cannot reach the fire site via forest paths. The extinguishing work is hampered by old ammunition in the ground. That is why only about 30 firefighters are currently involved. A federal police fire helicopter has also arrived to help.
According to Valentin, the area affected is the same one where a fire of about 700 hectares broke out last year. The fire service was deployed for several days. Airplanes and helicopters extinguished the fire from the air.
A fire also broke out in this forest area in mid-August this year.
