Berlin – One of the last symbols of the left-wing radical scene comes back into focus – the partially occupied house at Rigaer Strasse 94 in Friedrichshain. Because now the fire protection report is available, which a test engineer created after an inspection a month ago and which the residents of the house wanted to prevent riots. The report lists many shortcomings in the expertise available to the Berliner Zeitung: missing or too narrow escape routes, an entrance gate that the police could only open after a long time, a pub on the ground floor that works without a permit.
According to the test report, the most serious are the escape routes. There is such a way for every apartment. Because all apartments led to a necessary stairwell. But in nine apartments there is no second escape route required – i.e. the possibility of being saved from the flames using a turntable ladder from the fire brigade or a jump cushion. The passage to the second courtyard is too narrow for the fire brigade to transport the 45 kilogram jump cushion there in a reasonable time in the event of a fire, it is said. The access corresponds “under no circumstances to the building authority requirements”.
