A major fire has broken out at the BAE Systems nuclear submarine yard in Barrow-in-Furness in the UK, the BBC and Sky News reported.

Police reported that the fire at the yard was recorded in the British county of Cumbria. Two people were taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation injuries.

Cumbria Police said there was “no nuclear risk.”

People were advised to stay indoors with their doors and windows closed.

Some photos circulating on social media purportedly taken at the shipyard showed large flames and thick smoke coming from a tall white building.

BAE Systems is the second largest indoor shipbuilding complex of its kind in Europe. Sky News reports that a wide range of military hardware and technology is produced on site, including nuclear submarines, fighter jets, tanks and ships, as well as weapons and ammunition.

“It also builds Type 26 frigates for the Royal Navy and makes electronic warfare systems for the F-35 fighter jet. The company's Barrow-in-Furness facility builds the Astute and Dreadnought class nuclear submarines for the Royal Navy. BAE Systems has built all but three of the Royal Navy's nuclear submarines since 1963,” the statement said.
