Finland does not intend to improve relations with Russia

Finland's new report on foreign and security policy asserts that the country will not restore political relations with the Russian Federation while it is waging its war of conquest against Ukraine, reports Yle.

Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has fundamentally changed relations between Finland and Russia, the report says. Political relations between the countries are now broken and only diplomatic relations and the necessary cooperation between authorities, including at the border, are functioning.

According to the report, political relations with Russia cannot be built while the Russian Federation continues its war of conquest and violates international law.

Finland, however, will try to maintain the functioning of Russian civil society as far as possible, the report says.

However, the report does not identify Russia as representing a direct military threat to Finland. However, the report indicates that the threat of military force against Finland must be prepared.

Russia is expected to continue to carry out hybrid attacks against Finland. An example of this is the redirection of asylum seekers to the eastern border.

The report also calls for preparations for damage to critical infrastructure.
