(Toronto) Don’t worry, nostalgic for the children’s show Fraggle Rock : The Colored Haired Creatures are back in Canada for a new show.
The Jim Henson Company has reported that filming for the successful 1980s series has officially started in Calgary.
Last April, a new miniseries of short films shot in the United States called Fraggle Rock: Rock On! was offered on Apple TV Plus, and hosted guest artists such as Canadian singer Alanis Morissette.
The creators had then made a limited number of six-minute episodes, remotely from their residence, while confinement to fight COVID-19 began.
But the Jim Henson Company explained that last summer, with the pandemic in full swing, the creators wanted to find a new location where they could produce a series of full episodes.
Chris Lytton, COO of The Jim Henson Company, noted that Calgary was “the obvious choice” because of Alberta’s production support structure.
Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi said the city also offers talented artisans and a “reputation as a world leader in the art of puppetry.”
Fraggle Rock follows the adventures of anthropomorphic creatures known as Fraggles, who live in caves under a house with small humanoid workers known as Doozers.
The cover cast includes two puppeteers from the original series – Dave Goelz and Karen Prell. The new series will also be broadcast on Apple TV Plus.
