Facebook will introduce users created using artificial intelligence

AI characters will have their own biographies, profile photos, and the ability to generate and share content.

Meta plans to use AI-created characters on Facebook. The company sees them as a complement to real users, and over time they will interact with real people. The Financial Times reports. According to Meta VP of Generative AI Product Development Connor Hayes, AI characters could become an integral part of social platforms in the future, just like real accounts.

«AI characters will have their own biographies, profile photos, and will be able to generate and share AI-generated content», — Connor Hayes said.

In addition to creating fictional characters, Meta’s AI studio will allow influencers on Facebook and Instagram to create their own AI avatars. Users will be able to communicate and interact with these digital versions just as they would with real people.

Meta already launched its AI character creation tool in the US in July of this year. To date, users have created hundreds of thousands of such characters, although most of them remain private. The company plans to further expand access to this feature.

In addition, Meta is implementing other AI tools:

  • creating assistants who will answer subscribers' questions;

  • a program for generating videos based on text queries, which will become available next year;

  • enhancement of real content, such as photo editing.

Also earlier Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated the possibility of live video calls with an AI avatar that mimics the communication style of a real creator.

In September 2024, the company Meta has unveiled 28 AI characters for social media chatbots that are virtual versions of celebrities. You can message them with questions on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
