As noted, the plane was shot down by accident when it was refueling in the air. The tanker plane suddenly got into turbulence, against the background of which the fighter, which was refueling, was pulled up. At some point, the pilot lost control of the F-35. The plane crashed in the southern part of California, the pilot who was inside with a number of injuries required hospitalization, now he is receiving medical attention.

It is also known that the refueling tanker himself almost fell victim to the crash. The latter's engines failed, the pilots barely managed to land in the field. The crew members of the aircraft were not injured, and the US Department of Defense declined to comment.
