Explosive. The maker of a $700 anti-AI smartphone is recalling thousands of accessories

The black streak continues for Humane, maker of the AI Pin AI gadget, which has been called bad at almost everything. This time the problem is not with the device itself, but with the charging case for it.

Due to safety concerns, Humane is voluntarily recalling 10 500 units of its Charge Case accessory. This happened after the company received only one report of overheating and "melting" of the charging case when connecting to a socket. Humane claims that this incident was related to the use of a third-party USB-C cable and third-party power supply. The company did not specify what “external power supply” means. This can apply to any power source, charger, or even an outlet.

According to a notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), users of the Humane charging case should immediately stop using it. They can contact Humane for a refund of between $130 and $150 or a replacement. Humane says it has identified a new battery supplier for the Charge Case and is conducting a thorough qualification process. The new charging cases are expected to be available in 3-6 months. Humane asked owners to stop using the original charging cases in June due to a fire risk. This happened after numerous reviews criticized its AI Pin gadget, a miniature device in the form of a square brooch that is supposed to replace smartphones for users. The main task of this $700 device is to answer questions using artificial intelligence language models.
