The rating of the cars with the most often twisted mileage has been compiled. The value of the vehicle on the secondary market seriously depends on the numbers on the odometer.
The research was initiated by the British company Rapid Car Check. In total, more than 7 million vehicles were checked. Inconsistencies were identified in 443,061 of them, which is 6.32%. In September last year, 38.9 million vehicles were registered in the UK. It turns out that the mileage is twisted in 2,458,480 of them. Citroen Jumpy, known in the local market as Dispatch, undergoes this procedure more often. Out of 8188 cars checked, 2448 had incorrect odometer numbers, which is 29.89% or a third of the total. Renault Scenic is next in the ranking with a result of 29.61%, and the top three is closed by Peugeot Expert, who gained 28.63%.
British law prohibits the sale of vehicles with such inconsistencies, but owners find loopholes to bypass the restrictions. Over the past five years alone, 140 criminal cases have been initiated on this basis. As of today, special devices can be bought on the Internet for only £ 100 (10 thousand rubles).
However, the published results do not match those of research by HPI, which specializes in vehicle history. According to her data, in 2016 the owner of every 16th car twisted her mileage, and in 2014 – every 20th. This is done in order to gain more money when selling, because cars with low mileage are much more expensive. So, the 2012 Nissan Qashqai assembly with a mileage of 30,000 miles (48,000 km) is sold for 12,495 pounds (1.25 million rubles), and with 60,000 miles (97,000 km) already for 10,950 pounds (1.1 million rubles). If the numbers on the odometer increased to 90,000 miles (145 thousand km), its price would drop to 9,575 pounds sterling (960 thousand rubles).
