Expert shares tips on protecting personal information

On Information Protection Day (November 30), an information security specialist who wished to remain anonymous shared practical tips for protecting personal data on the Internet.

What you should know

He recommends physically removing the hard drive from your computer before taking it in for repair to prevent unauthorized access to information.

To protect your social media accounts, you should use two-factor authentication and create unique and complex passwords for each service, avoiding reusing the same credentials. Minimizing personal information online, refusing to link fake accounts to the main ones, and deleting unused profiles are important precautions.

The specialist warns against taking a photo and sending your passport to third parties without proper verification to avoid fraud. To prevent virus infection and phishing attacks, you should ignore suspicious emails and attachments, paying attention to file extensions (for example, .exe at the end of the document name should cause alarm).
