The current security crisis, in particular Russia's aggression against Ukraine, shows that Europe cannot defend itself without the US.
This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, reports Associated Press.
“Poland perceives US participation in European security as a fundamental condition for peace in Europe”, – he said.
The Polish Foreign Minister also said that European members of NATO should also take more responsibility for their own defense.
He called US leadership in NATO the key to “adapting quickly and effectively to the Russian threat in 2016”.
It is noted that it was then that NATO increased its presence on the eastern flank after Russia's illegal annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014 and support for pro-Moscow rebels in the Donbass.
After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States sent more soldiers and use the country as a weapon center to help the Ukrainians.
“The current crisis clearly shows that Europe cannot defend itself without the US”, – Rau said.
