EU plans to ban sales of consoles to Russia due to use in drones

The European Union plans to ban the sale of game consoles to Russia to prevent them from being used to control strike drones that Russia is using in the war against Ukraine. This is reported by the Financial Times.

According to the statement of the head of the EU foreign policy department Kaia Kallas, popular consoles such as Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox may fall under the new package of sanctions. The introduction of these sanctions is planned on the eve of the third anniversary of the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine – February 22.

«We are analyzing any products that could help Russia wage war to include them on the sanctions list. Game consoles too, because they are used to control drones».

At the time of publication, representatives of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft had not given official comments on this matter.
