Estonia will build a “drone wall” in major cities and on the border with Russia

Estonia plans to create a “drone wall” in four large cities and on the border with Russia to protect critical infrastructure facilities. This is reported by ERR.

As the head of the Bureau of Border Management of the Department of Police and Border Guard Ivi Kalmus noted, Estonia has the ability to see drones and shoot them down if necessary, but this is not enough.

“Along drones were flying on the eastern border for the purpose of smuggling. And we heard through the media about the detection of our critical infrastructure by drones,” Kalmus said.

According to her, instead of monitoring every square meter in real time, it is necessary to develop a system capable of detecting and eliminating a diverse range of drones.

For this, you can use acoustic communication, radio monitoring, cameras, radars and other means of communication and destruction of drones. The created system, which will combine various technical solutions, should ensure that drones will not be able to reach critical targets unnoticed.

The creation of the “drone wall” is planned to begin next year. The cost of the project is estimated at 12 million euros.
