Elon Musk rejected accusations of interference in the German election and hinted that the US saved Europe

American businessman and nominee for the position of head of the Department of Government Efficiency Elon Musk has responded to accusations that he is interfering in the German elections by supporting the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

He posted his response on the social network X.

Previously, French politician and former European Commissioner for Internal Trade and Services Thierry Breton criticized Musk for his words in support of the AfD.

He wrote on X, «isn't this the definition of foreign interference» and called for an end to «double standards» and for the application of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), which regulates the activities of online intermediaries and platforms to prevent illegal and harmful activities on the Internet, against the X platform, which belongs to Musk.

Musk responded by telling Breton that «foreign interference» from the US side, which he was accused of, «this is the only reason why you don't speak German or Russian now». In this way, he probably hinted at the role of the United States during World War II.

Note that elections in Germany are likely to be held on February 23 after the collapse of the center-left coalition government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The AfD is in second place in the polls and could prevent a center-right or center-left majority, but Germany's main, more centrist parties have promised to avoid supporting the AfD at the national level.

After Musk's post in support of the far-right party, the German government said it had taken note of the publication but declined to make any further comments.
