Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has commented on Elon Musk's criticism of the ban on social media for children under 16 in Australia.
This is reported by Reuters.
Albanese noted that Musk, as the owner of the social network X (formerly Twitter), is pushing his own agenda and has the right to express his opinion.
The Prime Minister also noted that Australia has passed a law that forces technology giants to stop access to social media for minors, and companies could face significant fines if they fail to comply.
The law, which was the result of much debate, will come into force in a year and will see enforcement tests from January 2025. It has angered Musk, who said it could be an attempt to control internet access for all Australians. Albanese stressed that Australia was pursuing its national interests and could discuss the issue with anyone, but noted that Musk had the right to pursue his own interests as a businessman.
