Elon Musk hints at renaming the English Channel after George Washington

Elon Musk has published a map with a new name for the strait between England and France – the “George Washington Channel”. The proposal has caused outrage among users and European politicians.

American businessman Elon Musk has hinted at renaming the English Channel to the “George Washington Channel”. Musk wrote about this on his social network X.

A new name for the waters separating England and France

– Musk wrote.

He published a map on which, instead of the English Channel, the name “George Washington Canal” is written, after the first US president.

Users in the comments took Musk's idea ambiguously. In particular, French politician and member of the European Parliament Anthony Smith called Musk a Nazi, and some users called him “a fool who should mind his own business”, a poor clown, a separatist, etc.

Some users are wondering why this obsession with changing the names of geographical landmarks is happening now, and are also calling for respect for other countries with history and culture.

Moreover, users are suggesting that Musk return the territories of New France to France – the general name for French possessions in North America, including the US states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, North and South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
