Elina Svitolina will regain the status of the first racket of Ukraine after defeating Iga Shviontek in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon-2023. In real time, Elina reached the 27th place in the WTA ranking. conveys Suspilne.
For the first time since the 2012 season, Svitolina lost her leadership in the ranking among Ukrainian women last year. Due to her pregnancy, the tennis player took a long break in her career, after which Angelina Kalinin overtook her in the ranking in June.
Currently, Svitolina and Kalinin occupy neighboring steps in the world ranking — on the 27th and 28th, respectively. At the same time, Angelina has already finished her performances at Wimbledon, losing in the second round to Bianca Andreescu.
"If I had been told before the tournament that I would beat the world's number one racket and reach the semifinals, I would have said that they had lost their minds,", — said Svitolina after the quarterfinal match.

- The Ukrainian will play a semi-final match with Marketa Vondroushova on Thursday, July 13.
- If she wins against Vondroushova and reaches the Wimbledon final, Svitolina guarantees herself at least 21st place in the WTA world ranking.
- Svitolina and Vondroushova will play each other for the sixth time. The Ukrainian woman, who defeated her opponent three times, maintains a minimal advantage in personal meetings.
