Ecuador has around 5 million doses distributed nationwide. This is because in the case of some patients the dose must be doubled. Health authorities have noted that since masks, self-isolation, hand hygiene and social distancing were introduced in the last two years, the overall number of respiratory illnesses has decreased. But they affirm that during 2022 there are more cases of respiratory infections, hospitalizations and critical illnesses due to the relaxation of security measures.

The Ministry of Health reported that the vaccines distributed are trivalent to protect against the three strains currently circulating in the northern hemisphere: AH1N1, AH3N2, and influenza B. The health authorities have confirmed that vaccinations are already being carried out in at least 74% of the health centers throughout the country, but there will also be teams that will go to nursing homes and marginal areas.

To date, there have been 136 cases of severe flu requiring hospitalization based on these types of variants. The months of December and January are expected to raise the peaks in the estimates of infections.

According to estimates by the Pan American Health Organization(PAHO) in Ecuador, every year around the world about 1,000 million people are infected and almost a million of them die. As part of the launch of the campaign promoted by the government of Ecuador, a health fair was held that covered vaccines against COVID-19, influenza vaccines and other routine vaccinations, in addition to offering rapid tests and health advice family, education, vaccinations and nutritional advice.

Some specialists believe that Ecuador will enter a new wave of COVID-19 due to the number of reported infections caused by the huge number of the population that no longer wears masks and other He has even lost interest in getting vaccinated. Experts say that the Christmas holidays and the crowds typical of the last month of the year will cause an increase in cases of influenzaand respiratory infections that are expected to coincide with the growth peaks registered between December and January 2021 and 2020.

The regional expert Alejandro Macias in his account of Twitter has stated that “in the US a “soup” of omicron variants is gradually replacing the dominant BA.5. The advantages of one over the other are few, but it is expected that in December the BQ.1.1 will be dominant. Something similar should happen in Canada, Mexico and Latin America.”

Epidemiologists say that if the COVID-19 virus becomes active, it will cause mutations, which will cause a significant increase in flu and colds. The recommendation of the specialists is to avoid crowds, use more husks and periodically disinfect your hands with washings accompanied by soap and water, alcohol or antibacterial gel. All these measures help to contribute to the reduction of infections in the new strains of the coronavirus that continue to be present in all parts of society.
