On Thursday night, Progressive Conservative York Center MP Roman Baber sent a letter to Premier Doug Ford asking him to end the lockdown. Friday morning, Doug Ford announces that this MP is no longer part of the caucus and that he can no longer run under the banner of the party in the next election.
“The remedy kills the patient. Ontario hospitals and intensive care unit capacity are better than the past three years. I write on behalf of myself and my constituents in North York and advocate for the millions of lives and existences ruined by Ontario’s public health restrictions. ”
These are the first lines of the letter sent by Roman Baber to Doug Ford, in which he insists that the confinement does not work and that it generates an “avalanche of suicides, overdoses, bankruptcies, divorces and a huge impact on children ”.
According to the MP, the crisis is largely confined to long-term care homes (LTCHs). “With all residents of LTCHs in ‘red zones’ who will be vaccinated by January 21, Ontario should end the lockdown and its catastrophic impact on Ontarians.”
Doug Ford considers this to be irresponsible. “By spreading misinformation, it is undermining the tireless efforts of our frontline healthcare workers at this critical time, and it puts people at risk. I will not put the life of a single Ontarian at risk by ignoring public health advice. ”
