Republican candidate Donald Trump said on Thursday, September 12, that he will not participate in another presidential debate against Kamala Harris before the November 5 election. Earlier, several polls showed that his Democratic rival won the debate this week, Reuters reports.

——THIRD DEBATE IS NOT HAPPENING!— the former president wrote on Truth Social. Trump debated President Joe Biden in June before debating Harris on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

While Trump touted his performance against Harris on Tuesday, six Republican donors and three Trump advisers who spoke to Reuters earlier this week said they believed Harris won the debate in large part because Trump failed to stick to his message.

The debate drew 67.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen.
Harris, speaking at a rally shortly after Trump's post, said, “I think we owe it to the voters to have another debate.”

While Trump said in his post that polls showed he won the debate, several polls show respondents think Harris did better.

Among voters who said they heard at least something about Tuesday's debate, 53 percent said Harris won, while 24 percent said Trump won, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday. The poll found that 54% of registered voters thought the single debate between Trump and Harris was enough, while 46% wanted a second debate.

A majority of those who watched the debate said Harris beat Trump, according to a CNN poll released shortly after the debate. YouGov notes that 54% of those polled said Harris won, while 31% thought Trump was the winner.
