One of the oldest attractions at Disneyland's Magic Kingdom park is set to be demolished to make way for a brand new major project. The park is thinking big for the coming years.
Disneyland Paris takes out the checkbook to grow
In addition to new series and films to come, Disney has also taken advantage of of the D23 to unveil its new attractions in its various parks. In France at Disneyland Paris, a new attraction dedicated to the Lion King, based around the “Rock of Lions” (from which logs will emerge, throwing visitors into a huge waterfall), will be located on the banks of the brand new Adventure Bay lake,” currently being built behind Disney Adventure World.
Disneyland Paris also gave news of its “World of Frozen” zone, dedicated to Frozen, which is due to open in 2026. It will include a ride with a boat trip, a nighttime show combining “water screens, fountains, special effects and drone choreography” performed every evening, the construction of a restaurant and themed gardens.
a cult and historic attraction threatened with destruction
ÇThings are also moving in California and Florida with a new excursion centered on the Infinity saga, attractions inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash, a Coco attraction inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean attractionsand The Haunted Mansion and another project around the Cars phenomenon. In short, the two American parks are thinking big. But to make room for these projects, Disney is going to do some cleaning. Josh D'Amaro, president of Disney Experiences, revealed the location of the future park inspired by Cars, and its construction would involve the removal of one of the oldest attractions in the Florida park:Tom Sawyer Island, located in the middle of the Rivers of America located in the country of Frontierland.
The historic island attraction personally designed by Walt Disney in 1956consists of a log fort built as a tribute to the conquest of the West and serving as a play area for children. Visitors can board the Sailing Ship Columbia or the Mark Twain Riverboat which sail around the island and admire typical Wild West settings and references to the cartoon Tom Sawyer.
This removal would mark a real break with the park's origins. The French and Hong Kong sites have already been razed attraction, replacing them with the attraction Big Thunder Mountain (in France), and the attraction Jungle Cruise with the tree from Tarzan's Treehouse, in Hong Kong. Only Disneyland in Ananheim, Tokyo Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, therefore, have currently left their island safe and sound.
