Despite the prohibition of several rallies, demonstrators against the government’s corona measures met again on Saturday in Vienna. The police counted a little more than 1,000 participants who met in Resselpark in front of the Karlskirche. After the stand rally there was a call for a “walk” on the Ringstrasse at around 3 pm. A large group made their way there, but were blocked by the executive at Babenberger Strasse.
Against mask requirement and tests in schools
At Karlsplatz there had previously been a riot in a peaceful folk festival atmosphere against the compulsory testing in schools and the mask requirement, but at the same time they called for compliance. This is probably also because the executive branch, which appeared in large numbers, checked compliance and indicated those who refused. The re were no arrests until then.

Tyrol was noticeably strong. “ The Tyrolean eagle flies wherever it wants,” it said, referring to the obligation to test when leaving the state. It was also shouted: “Shortly has to go”, but the protest was also directed against the entire federal government.
On Twitter, observers said they had again discovered relevant right-wing extremists such as Gottfried Küssel at the rally this time. The re was no confirmation from the police. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution is in action, it said. Past experiences suggested that this time too, people with more radical sentiments could be there, said a spokesman. The re was initially no counter-demonstration by left activists.
It all started at Maria- The resien-Platz, where a registered stand rally took place at lunchtime. Several hundred participants started moving towards Karlsplatz at around 1:20 p.m., where they joined a sister event.
Numerous Austrian flags were carried; A Swedish one was also to be seen, probably because of the rather casual approach to the pandemic there. The executive was on site with a large contingent. (apa)
