Desperate Hasidim have arrived in Uman

More than a thousand pilgrims have already arrived in Uman to celebrate Rosh Ha -Shana, local authorities expect up to 10,000 to arrive after September 18.

“In our opinion, safety is paramount today. Therefore, it’s not worth saying that the call to refrain from visiting Uman in relation to believers is a harsh event,” said the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Igor Taburets, at a briefing at the Ukrainian Media Center, Ukrinform.

According to the head of the Cherkasy region, the local authorities warned believers in advance about the danger of staying in Ukraine due to Russian military aggression and asked them not to come to the celebration of Rosh Hashanah.

“They assured that they in Israel, in fact, constant war, and they are used to it. Having now analyzed all the pros and cons of the fact that believers will still go, we realized that it is necessary to focus on abstaining from traveling, not to focus on what we are categorically against, & ndash; Taburets said.

He explained that the request to refrain from traveling to Uman was due to the high probability of missile strikes, and recalled that Uman had been badly damaged by rocket attacks at the beginning of the war.

“Additional restrictions will be introduced in terms of observing the curfew hours. That is, we will keep records for each person, we will prohibit movement around the city both by road and on foot. Additional roadblocks will be set up on some streets”, – said the head of the OVA.

He said that counterintelligence and anti-terrorist activities are already being carried out on a regular basis. Also, as the head of the OVA noted, mass trade and crowding of people will be prohibited.

“I hope that believers will deliberately come in much smaller numbers, but we still expect that there will be up to 10 thousand of them. How will it be in reality – let's see. Now we already have more than 1,100 people who have arrived and live there. We expect an active arrival starting from September 18-19”, – noted Taburets.
