Designed to intercept ballistic missiles: a US missile defense base will be opened in Poland

A US anti-missile defense base will be opened in Poland in the coming weeks.

As noted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslav Sikorsky of Poland, from this American base, it is possible that Russian missiles flying towards Poland will be shot down.

“In the coming weeks, we will open an anti-missile defense base in Redzikovo near Putsk. This is the base we agreed on with the USA,”, — said Sikorsky on the air Radio Rebeliant.

It should be noted that the US missile defense base in Redzikovo was put into operation in July 2024. It is part of NATO's anti-missile shield and is designed to detect, track and intercept ballistic missiles.

As The Moscow Times notes, the base in Redzikovo is located 165 km from the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. It has a radar station and three Mk-41 launchers, each of which is equipped with eight containers for interceptor missiles of the Standard Missile 3 family.

We remind you that Poland is seriously considering the scenario of a Russian invasion, and began to strengthen its armed forces after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. Thus, Warsaw's defense spending in 2022 increased by 75%. Now Poland — the leader among NATO member states both in defense spending as a percentage of GDP and in arms purchases. By the end of 2024, Warsaw will spend more than 4% of its GDP on defense, and in 2025 — almost 5%. Poland buys weapons from the USA, South Korea, and Great Britain. The current strength of the Polish army is about 200,000 people, the government's goal — to increase the personnel to 300,000
