Defense Express: India buys parts from French Thales for its Su-30, but this may be a scheme to circumvent Russian sanctions

The Indian Air Force has, as it turned out, as many as 262 Russian-made Su-30MKY aircraft, which require, in particular, electronics manufactured by the French defense company Thales.

The Indian side buys these electronics through companies in Kazakhstan.

However, in fact, this may be a “loophole”, with the help of which Russia still has the opportunity to receive electronics from Thales for its own Su-30MKY aircraft.

Following an investigation into the scheme by the intelligence community InformNapalm, France has reportedly asked India to tighten export controls on electronic components, stressing that “these extremely important elements can be delivered to Russia to circumvent international sanctions.

In this investigation, it was said that the Kazakh company ARC Group is involved in the chain of maintenance of Russian Su-30SMs using Thales electronics, which is a direct violation of sanctions bans.

As the authors of the publication specify, on the Indian Su-30MKY aircraft, electronics from Thales are used, in particular, in multifunctional displays, navigation systems and indicators on the windshield (HUD), and all these components are critically important for operational efficiency aircraft.

It is emphasized that India has already managed to accumulate considerable experience in servicing these same Su-30MKY, in particular, in electronics manufactured by Thales, including "with sight" to export markets.
