>>/Open Source

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported a new resolution on renaming 327 settlements. Six settlements were removed from the previous version of the draft law, for which the Rada did not vote.

People's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this in Telegram.

The new resolution No. 12043 was supported by 281 people's deputies. Parliament adopted a resolution on changing the names of 327 settlements without discussion. However, six localities were removed from the option voted for by the People's Deputies the day before.

As part of the resolution, the names of localities that contain Russian and Soviet narratives or Russified names are renamed.Names dedicated to Russian figures are being renamed, for example, Pushkin, Michurin, Maxim Gorky, Kutuzivka, Suvorov, Nekrasov, etc.

Among the proposals for renaming are many names related to Soviet holidays or symbols. For example, Pershe Travnia, Pershotravenka, Pervomaiske, Pershotravneve, Pershotravensk, Mayivka, etc.

Ruling on de-Russification/Open source

We remind you that on September 18, people's deputies blocked the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada due to the failure of the vote on renaming settlements.

Deputies were divided into those who demand a re-vote as a package, and those who believe that the package should be split up and vote for renaming each city separately. Blocking of the rostrum and srach continues, said member of parliament Vasylevska-Smaglyuk.

As you know, the parliament has banned geographical names related to Russia. The adoption of the law will accelerate the de-Sovietization and de-Russification of the country.
