Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, has a comment to make regarding Deadpool & Wolverine. He regrets that this cult character from the Marvel universe is absent from Shawn Levy's film.
Deadpool & Wolverine: huge box office success
Released on July 24, Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has literally been a box office smash. This is a new success for Marvel Studios since this Deadpool 3 has grossed over $1.3 billionrecipe. A huge success and a record for the Marvel blockbuster which therefore places itself as the R-rated film that has brought in the most money at the box office of all time.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverineis also an opportunity to cross paths with many Marvel characters, including the heroes of the late 20th Century Fox. An opportunity for fans to meet cult actors and characters (in addition to Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds) such as Aaron Stanford as Pyro, Tyler Mane as Sabretooth, Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipesin Blade. Yet, despite all these characters, there is a big absentee in Deadpool & Wolverine.

And yes, Cable, who was the main antagonist of Deadpool 2 did not return in Deadpool & Wolverine. Played by Josh Brolin, this anti-hero whose destiny is often linked to those of Deadpool and the X-Force, decides to trust Wade, and becomes an ally in the final moments of the film. We all expected to see the character again in Deadpool & Wolverine, yet Cable was not invited to the party.
A regrettable decision, not shared by Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool and Cable. The latter took to his X account to share his disillusionment about Cable's absence in Shawn Levy's blockbuster:
It is such a missed opportunity to not get Josh Brolin rolling on a bunch of Cable/X-Force films. Full stop.

It is such a missed opportunity to not get Josh Brolin rolling on a bunch of Cable/X-Force films. Full stop.
Let alone developing films or series around Cable and X-Force, the character played by Josh Brolin had a perfect place in the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine. But, perhaps Shawn Levy did not know where to take this anti-hero, especially in a story that is teeming with characters of all kinds. Yet in the comics, Cable plays a major role in the creation of the X-Force. For a time, Fox wanted to develop a film around the X-Force. But the acquisition of the studio by Disney seems to have buried this idea. Too bad…
