Of course, Deadpool & Wolverine is full of cameos of all kinds. Characters from old Marvel franchises make their big comeback in Shawn Levy's film. Heroes and super-villains from the Fox universe (X-Men, Fantastic Four) but also protagonists who are members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Thus, the Marvel film is extremely generous in terms of appearances and easter eggs. However, some characters are absent from this third Deadpool. Here are 10 characters that we would have liked to see in the Marvel blockbuster. Warning, this article contains SPOILERS!
Domino (Zazie Beetz)
If some characters from the previous two ;previous Deadpool make their return in the film, like Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead or even Dopinder, the endearing Dominois absent from the feature film. Too bad, because the character played by Zazie Beetz in Deadpool 2 offered a refreshing dynamic. Funny, irreverent, atypical, this emblematic anti-heroine of comics already owes a lot to her power. Indeed, the young woman's mutant power is an indecent piece of luck. In Deadpool 2, David Leitch had excellent staging ideas to materialize this unique power. And frankly, we would have loved to see this X-Woman like no other again.
Scott Summers (James Marsden)
We haven't seen Scott Summers since X-Men: Dark Phoenix in 2019. In this second saga, the famous character was played by Tye Sheridan. But our favorite Cyclops It is obviously that of James Marsden. And we haven't seen him since the final scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past. And James Marsden as Scott, we miss him sorely. We would have loved to see the leader of the X-Men again in Deadpool & Wolverine, especially if it was the opportunity to see James Marsden again in this cult role. Without a doubt the best of his career.
Storm (Halle Berry)
We stay with the X-Men with Storm. As with Scott, the character has passed through several hands. First played by Halle Berry, the character is then taken over by the young Alexandra Shipp in X-Men: Apocalypse. As with Scott, we obviously wanted to see Halle Berry again in the role of the weather goddess. Iconic actress, cult character, we had all the ingredients to offer fans a return in style.
Daredevil (Ben Affleck)
We're obviously not talking about Charlie Cox who was officially reintroduced into the MCU following his appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Avocate and Echo. No, the Daredevil we wanted to see again was Ben Affleck. After all, Shawn Levy has fun bringing back old Marvel figures like Jennifer Garner as Elektra or Wesley Snipes as Blade. The big absentee is probably Ben Affleck in the Daredevil costume. Remember, the Batman actor actually played the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in 2003. While his character is introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine, he unfortunately makes no appearance. Too bad, because his presence had a kind of logic.
Magneto (Ian McKellen)
Patrick Stewart was entitled to his post-X-Men appearances. Indeed, after the conclusion of the X-Men saga, the 84-year-old British actor had the chance to reprise the role of Charles Xavier twice: in the excellent Logan(2017) and even in the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). At the time of the release of Logan, Ian McKellen, who played Magneto for many years in the X-Men saga, had declared that he regretted not being in James Mangold's film alongside his friend Patrick Stewart. It was thought that Deadpool & Wolverinewas going to give Ian McKellen the opportunity to reprise one more (and final) time this iconic character of Magneto… Missed opportunity…
Omega Red
He is one of the most iconic villains in the Wolverine universe. However, Omega Red, (apart from in the two animated series X-Men) has never appeared on screen. Deadpool & Wolverine would have been the perfect film to offer Omega Red his first live action cinematic appearance. Created in 1992 by John Byrne and Jim Lee, Omega Red is a Russian mutant, a former soldier and criminal who works for the KGB. Like Logan, Arkady Rossovich undergoes an experiment that transforms him into a weapon of war. Scientists graft deadly carbon tentacles into his arms that deploy and can drain the life energy of his victims.
Punisher (Thomas Jane)
Yes, we know that Jon Bernthal will soon return as the Punisher in the MCU in the future series Daredevil: Born Again. But Jon Bernthal wasn't the first face of Frank Castle. Three other actors came before him: Dolph Lundgren in 1989, Thomas Jane in 2004 and the late Ray Stevenson in 2008. And of the three interpreters of the Punisher, it's obviously Thomas James that we would have liked to see again in Deadpool & Wolverine. Especially since we can see The Russian in Shawn Levy's movie. An iconic Frank Castle villain that we can see in The Punisher. In any case, an appearance by Thomas Jane in Deadpool & Wolverine would have been totally logical. As with Daredevil, the character is however evoked by Elektra.
Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy)
Released in 2020, The New Mutants is the latest X-Men film produced by 20th Century Fox. The latest installment in the X-Men license. Directed by Josh Boone, it is also the worst. But there was still a rather interesting character. That of Magik, played by the fabulous Anya Taylor-Joy. An ambiguous anti-heroine who had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, because of the acquisition of Fox by Disney, the X-Men license died with The New Mutants. And we haven't had the chance to enjoy Magik yet. Deadpool & Wolverine would have been a good opportunity to bring Anya Taylor-Joy back into the MCU and especially in the cult role of Illyana Rasputin.
Fatalis (Robert Downey Jr)
While Chris Evans is back as the Human Torch, he is the only member of the Fantastic Four to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, we would have loved to see Fatalis again. Not necessarily the version of Julian McMahon, nor that of Toby Kebbell, but a new iteration of this iconic villain of the Marvel universe. Already because the multiverse is the gateway to all eccentricities, and also because Fatalis has never been properly adapted. A short time ago, we learned that Robert Downey Jr had inherited the role for the next Avengers. Deadpool & Wolverinecould have been the opportunity to present Robert Downey Jr as Fatalis.
Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage)
This is THE cameo we all wanted to see. In 2007 and 2012, the immense Nicolas Cage lent his features to the character of Ghost Rider. An iconic figure in comics, these two adaptations obviously did not convince fans. Fake films, disappointing Z series, lack of violence, depth, efficiency, lack of maturity, the character of Ghost Rider was not represented at his true value. Especially in the face of his overflowing celebrity among comic book readers. And since Deadpool & Wolverine has fun at Bringing back old Marvel figures from Fox, often mocked in the past (Elektra, Gambit, Sabretooth, The Human Torch), because of fairly bad films, Ghost Rider was the perfect candidate for this little game. And then, we love Nicolas Cage.
