Since its release in theaters on July 23, Deadpool & Wolverine has captured the hearts of hundreds of millions of viewers around the world. A real box office hit, this film is also a kinder surprise for Marvel fans, who enjoyed the many surprise cameos from their favorite characters. Ryan Reynolds unfortunately had to remove one during editing, and it was not a happy ending of heart…
this cameo that Ryan Reynolds really wanted had to be cut in the editing
If Ryan Reynolds could have put all his friends and all the Marvel characters he loves in Deadpool 3, there's no doubt he would have done it! However, the star of the franchise was forced to choose, and to sort through all the candidates likely to appear in the film. This is how the short scene in which his friend, actor, director and producer Rob McElhenney (Philadelphia, Game of Thrones), did not survive the cut. Disguised as a TVA agent, the actor was supposed to be swallowed whole by Alioth, the terrifying smoke monster that serves as the guardian of the Void. But by Ryan Reynolds' own admission, this sequence did not work, and they had to remove it from the plot.

A word about my dear friend < strong>Rob McElhenney. Rob very kindly made a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverinewhich I hope will make it into the bonus features. When editing a film, they say that sometimes you have to “cut out your favorites.” And it was with a heavy heart (and a lot of outside intervention) that I had to kill off a favorite with this cameo… The sequence didn't work the way we originally intended it to. Rob is the only reason it stayed in the cut as long as it did, because Even under a mask and a TVA helmet, you can guess his infinite talent, his writing ability and his arrogance in mode “I create hit series”. Don't even talk to me about Wrexham [football club, editor's note]. Without Rob McElhenney, I wouldn't know the love of Wrexham.
Anyway, I loved making this film, but it wasn't without stress. There were a lot of expectations – and I'm pretty sure the best-written villain in film history is called “audience expectations”. And when you're doing stressful things, you feel better with friends around. And while I'm mortified that he came all the way to London for a cameo that didn't need to happen, I'm grateful that my friend was there with me on set. When I see Rob, my heart rate calms down and my brain stops screaming at me. He's there for the people. And he was there for me.
Even though he was begging for his life before Alioth ripped his unsuspecting body out of the air, swallowing him whole, then digesting him and turning him into Alioth poop.
RIP TVA Soldier.
A touching message, which Rob McElhenney will no doubt have been sensitive to!
