Deadly shark attack on Father’s Day in Australia!

On Sunday morning a shark bit off a surfer’s arm on Emerald Beach, about 530 kilometers north of Sydney. The man, who is said to have been between 20 and 29 years old, died on site from his injury.

Surfers and bystanders had tried to provide first aid. Rescue workers came specially with a helicopter, but could not do anything for the surfer. “The patient suffered a serious injury to his arm, but despite the best efforts by bystanders, paramedics and other rescue workers, the patient could not be resuscitated,” said Chris Wilson of the New South Wales Ambulance Service.

The state of New South Wales is under a coronavirus lockdown, but people can leave their homes to play sports. Swimming is also allowed. That’s why many people came to the beach on Father’s Day.

Three beaches in the area, Emerald Beach, Shelly Beach and Serenity Bay, have been closed to all water activities until further notice.
