Stardust, the biopic on David Bowie and the creation of his alter ego, is revealed in a very first trailer.
A very first trailer and poster for Stardust , the biopic about the late David Bowie , has just been unveiled by IFC Films. Directed by Gabriel Range , the film begins in 1971 when a young David Bowie leaves for his first trip to the United States to promote his record The Man Who Sold the World . With the help of his publicist Rob Oberman of Mercury Records, he imagines the character of Ziggy Stardust, which he will use for the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars .
The artist is played by Johnny Flynn , singer and actor seen in the film Sils Maria and in the series Lovesick . Its publicist is played by Marc Maron and his first wife Angie is played by Jena Malone . No original David Bowie music is used in the trailer and you shouldn’t expect to hear any in the feature film as Duncan Jones , David Bowie’s son, has publicly opposed the film. The producers were only able to use covers made by David Bowie. Stardust is slated to be available on VOD and in select theaters on November 25 in the United States.
This film, produced by Paul Van Carter, directed by Gabriel Range (I Am Slave) and written by Christopher Bell (The Last Czars), focuses on the early days of the pop icon’s career. The plot focuses in particular on David Bowie’s transformation into Ziggy Stardust in the early 1970s.
This somewhat sad trailer is not unanimous on social networks, some find no resemblance between the icon in the city and the transformation of Johnny Flynn, others recall that the artist’s son , director Duncan Jones, made it clear on Twitter that this film was being made without the family’s consent and that the production would not obtain the rights to use its music. The film will be released on November 25 in the United States on VOD, no release date in France, which has just closed theaters for at least a month.
